Connecting Bluetooth Headphones to Turntable PS-LX310BT

I can connect my turntable to various Amazon Echo speakers but when i try to connect to either my Sony WF-1000XM3 earbuds or BOSE QC over ear headphones it won't connect.  I've disconnected all of the Echo speakers to ensure it doesn't pair with them but it doesn't make any difference.

Can anyone help  please.  I'll also post this in the Hi-Fi category.

Thanks, what I was not doing was holding the pairing button for six seconds which enabled the old connections to clear and permitted connection with headphones.
