VGN-N31M/W vga output problem

Hi all

Iv recently bought a new TV! its a Samsung LE37R88BD, so now I want to watch HI Def videos via the laptop on it! but when I connect up this laptop im not getting nothing but my dads Acer laptop is perfect on it.

This is what iv done so far...

1.Updated vga drivers
2.Tried rebooting with it all connected up
3.Tried turning the TV on and off
4.Tried setting the Tv as the main monitor
5.Tried all possible resolutions
6.Tried 2 different cables


The TV dosn't detect anything on the other end of the cable like it did with my dads laptop, but the Laptop detects there is a TV there but its not outputting nothing to it...so im completely stumped on this. Im yet to try this laptop on another LCD TV which im hoping to soon.

Iv tried contacting sony via there e link but I think I may as well be peeing into the wind...

I have my laptop hooked up to my samsung lcd but can only use it as an extensions to my monitor so i have to drag items on to the screen. using the vga lead.

id be happy just to be able to do that

im hoping to test the laptop on another LCD today hopefully then I will know if the laptop and tv just dont like each other or if it is not working as it should.

It worked on the other LCD perfect..... so I got home and had another try and to my amazement I got it going on mine now too. I seem to have to bump start it via the Fn key...thats the only way it will start but the problem now is....the display isnt centered on the TV @ its native resolution but its ok at 1024/768 but the picture is all stretched... so im stumped again now :smileythinking:

Seb's G-Series has the same Graphics Card as your N-Series.

unfortunately nothing applies in that thread with my problem


i just dont get why the lower res will fill the tv screen perfect yet the native res is off center
