VGN-A217M won't read CDs, can anyone help?

Hi, I can't read my music CDs on my Vaio. I insert the disk but the notebook doesn't recognise any disk in the drive. It's driving me nuts because I want to update my ipod and can't. Any ideas anyone?:smileysad:

i have the 60 gig version of your laptop, maybe i can help, first, how long have u had your laptop and what did u do before it started to malfunction. did you install sp2. i had a problem when for a brief time it wouldnt read dvds - i checked the drive and cleaned it (even though there isnt much dirt,) and used a cd cleaner. another reason could be that u tilted ur notebook whilst the drive was spinning a cd. and if you have updated your driver for the drive then you should roll it back
