Upgrading Intel Processor on PCV RX501desktop

Hi all

I have a 2002 PCV RX501 w/ P4 2.4GHZ, I know its old 😞
but I have successfully upgraded Ram (1.5GB @PC2700) and Graphics card (Point of View 6800XT @512Mb agp) the rest is factory standard

now would like to upgrade processor from a P4 2.4GHZ to a P4 3.2Ghz. I think my motherboard P4S533VL limits to socket 478 so i was hopping to put in a Presott P4 3.2 Ghz 800fsb.

Will this work? ie power requirements, temperature, fsb compatible , size similarity since I have a medium sized case ...

I don't think you can go for a Prescott. Maybe for a Celeron(Prescott), which would be an downgrade then.LOL. If it's possible then I would take a 2.8Ghz Northword (533 FSB). Thermal Power Loss is less than 70watts. (3.2GHz Prescott need more than 100watts)

If I'm correct then you have an Asus P4S533-VL board in your VAIO.

I would say, the biggest thing you can have is a Pentium 4 Northwood with 3,066GHz. and 533MHz FSB (4x133)(needs a bit more than 80 watts). But this CPU is hard to find today. And then the price........... .

please, forget about prescott.
The CPU alone consumes then arround 100 Watts and I don;t think the mainboard, power supply or the Fan would be able to handle that...

Good point, plus your electricity bill will be high and you're not helping the enviorment
