RED DOTS INFECT MY COMPUTER

Hi I have a VAIO AR11S, I am having some problems with it though. I do not think anyone here will be able to give me a fix because even a Full System Restore (Back to Factory Settings) does not fix the problem, the main reason I'm posting in this forum is to see if any of you guys have experienced a similar problem or can at least diagnose from my extremely long post what has happened  and possibly what is going to need replacing, my guess is I have damaged my graphics card gaming too much, and the vent in the VAIO is not really up to the job of keeping it cool enough.

A few months out of the Warranty :slight_frown: (about a week ago from today), I started experiencing what I thought was just a bug and a simple restart would solve it. At the time the problem occurred I was playing a game (not a new game, but then again not a game I play often), the screen froze and a grid of red lines filled the screen. After a few Alt+Tab and Ctrl+Alt+Del the Task Manager appeared, the grid of red lines disappeared and I was able to continue gaming. It was not long though before I was back in the same situation apart from this time it resulted in me holding the power button and restarting. All seemed fine when I got back to the desktop. It was not until I opened Media Center and watched some TV I realised something was still not right, the red lines were back as dots now and appearing all over the screen (I made some screenshots at this point).

Media Center would not respond so I Ctrl+Alt+Del and End Task. I tried restarting again... This seemed to make things even worse. Now these red dots started to infect my Taskbar and Start Menu.

I gave up, it was not until the following day I ran the VAIO Utility Diagnostics. No problems were found with the CPU, none with the Memory, for the Video it found no problems the first time, the second time an error was detected for the first test but not the second and third. I tested a few more times until all three tests detected errors. I rang up support and the lady I spoke with told me to uninstall the NVIDIA graphics card (Control Panel>System>Hardware [Tab]>Device Manager [Button]>Display Adaptors>Right Click the name of the Graphics Card and Uninstall. This didn't work so she told me to try a System Restore. My VAIO didn't like that very much, now when I restarted red dots were appearing all over the startup process, when the Windows Logo appeared there were white dots all over the area usually black then BAM! a great big grid of red wavy lines with a black background which then changed to pink lines with a purple background. Total chaos, I can't even see the shape of a desktop. At this point the kind lady from Sony Support realised she had made things worse and hastily told me I would need to send it in for repair and the repair people would contact me within the hour. I tried restarting a few more times then suddenly a screen appeared which told me "Windows was sorry for the inconvenience". Everything appeared normal again and I thought it was all over :smileycool:, the repair people called and I told them I no longer required repair thinking it was fixed. Wrong, I thought I would try playing a Blue-ray. The quality of the blue-ray was reduced and I was watching DVD quality. Then the red lines kept appearing all over the screen (freezing the film). I gave up and left my VAIO on while I went to get an external HDD just incase I was not able to get to the desktop again. When I returned I realised I should of turned off the screensaver because it had frozen on the graphic intensive screensaver of the fish in a fish tank (no joke). I tried restarting but was not able to get past the Windows Logo. I pressed F5 during startup and managed to get a desktop to appear using Safe Mode which allowed me to at least get all my files off. After doing so I tried the recovery discs four times, twice with my own which I had created and twice with ones I had bought from Sony. Neither worked. Now when I turn on my VAIO the VAIO logo appears as normal>the Windows logo appears but I notice white dots appearing all over the area behind which is normally all black>then a grid of red wavy lines fills the whole the screen with a black background which changes to pink with a blue background. Then the Windows Setup music starts playing but nothing displays. As I write this I had my VAIO on at the point I just described and finally the Windows Setup screen appeared but with the pink wavy lines behind it. I've just been able to go through the Windows Setup and have completed the VAIO Recovery, however pink wavy lines still fill the screen :smileysad:. I'm only just able to see a desktop.

Thanks for reading if you did :smileyhappy:. I'm going call support again and organise repair.

Sorry for you... Looks like a overheating problem with the graphic card. Anyway, Sony support will repair it !
