notebook download speed limited?

Does anyone know how come my download speed on my notebook is much smaller than on my desktop?

both internetconnections are connected to a router

my download speed on my laptop is around:
142.1 KByte/sec
(=1137 kbps)

but when it test it on my desktop pc it is around 600 KByte/sec.

I tried using my desktop internet connection still the same speed.

Is it because of my network card on this notebook(Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection) that limit my download speed?
