Think my 2 year old VGN-FJ1Z has finally died. Think it must have a loose connection somewhere
as it just keeps turning off suddenly as if its lost all power. It has both the battery and power cord connected. Ive even tried changing the battery as I have a spare but that made no difference. Sometimes it wont even get as far as the windows loading screen, and then other times I get an hour or so.
Anyone esle experienced this? Any ideas? Dont really want to send it off for repairs.
Hi Whykie,
the cause of your Vaio shutting down could due to overheating...!!
what is the normal running temperature of your vaio..?
If your unsure, mobilemeter is a handy application to use..
If your vaio is getting hot you may need to first try clearing the cooling vents of dust with compressed air (you should be able to get this from your local PC shop), holding the can upright give the vents a short blast from a distance of approx. 10cm if you hold the can to close you could damage the fan..
If you do not notice any improvement then your vaio may need to be disassembled in order to deep clean the fan and cooling vents.
Hey thanks for quick reply. I did actually think of that. A week or so ago it made a strange noise when I turned it on as if a fan was grinding to a halt. How would I know if ones gone tho? Ill take a look at that program.
Wow, its still going !!
Hi Whykie,
can you still hear if the fan is working.?
Let us know the temperature readings once you have run mobilemeter.?
Thalamus,
One fan is still working. The one that cuts in every so often, but I guess there may be more than one??
Mobilemeter readings are:
Frequency = 800
Temp = 47
Charge Rate = 0.08
HDD#0 = 30
Temp has risen from 46 initially to 49, back to 48 whilst typing this. Laptop only been on a few minutes after a few hours off. Are they normal? Ill keep monitoring to see if it increases due no fan put post this now whilst its still working.
Thanks
Edit to say, Temp slowly rising, up to 52 now, but hasnt died yet.
57 now and rising quicker. Is that too hot????
If it is the fan how do I know which one, where can I get one, and is it likely to be simple job. Thanks so much for your help.
that is normal system temp for a laptop
nearly all laptops only have one fan (from what i have seen 9/10 vaio's have one)
it seems to me the problem might be down to dust or a loose connection/chip inside of the case
if it was a fault then your laptop would have alerted you by now.
