Interconnecting sony equipment

Hi there,
I've recently received a VAIO VCG-LA1 as a result of an insurance claim, and on the whole I am very happy with it. I previously owned a PCV-W1, which I used to connect to my Hi-fi with an optical Toslink cable (My receiver is a sony STRDB-780s).

I'm wondering if there is any way for me to continue to stream music to my receiver from my VAIO? My receiver does not have iLink, and my VAIO does not have a toslink connection. Is there any way to interconnect between the two, or am I going to have to buy a USB device to output toslink, or similar devices? I hope not!

Hi Tom and welcome to Club Vaio.

Looking at the specifications of your Vaio, it looks like the only audio output is via the headphone socket. This will probably give reasonable stereo output through amplified speakers but I guess you will need an external USB or PCMCIA soundcard.

Something like THIS PCMCIA CARD.

THIS ONE has an optical out.
