Help needed with a PCG-Z1M

Hi,

I have a PCG-Z1M which i wanted to put to windows 2000. Having been told that this was not supported i decided to do the next safest thing which also is not supported by Sony and upgrade XP home to XP pro. All gone sweetly except for the Bluetooth install. I have removed and re-added all bluetooth H/W in device manager and downloaded the update patch for XP and the original drivers ( 21Mb ) from sony. Now no matter what i try to do, on each install i get the message " Bluetooth: Turn power on "

The power is on, the blue light is showing, Device manager is happy with the VCOMM (4) for Bluetooth yet the system fails to see it. All i did in the first place was restore the system from the XP home recovery disks, make sure everything worked and then place an XP full disk in and select upgrade ???

Maybe im ignorent but i thought that XP drivers worked for both XP home and XP pro. The upgrade seems to have shot Bluetooth to peices.

Any help would be much apprecieted.

Thanks. Andy :slight_frown:

Is the wireless manager installed. It is probabuly on your restore CD's

I know that you have probabuly tried this but on the start bar by the clock there should be a B icon to turn on the bluetooth and wireless networking.

If you open the sony wireless manager (i think that is its name) there should be a set of radio buttons to turn the bluetooth and wireless networking on an off.

It could have some thing to do with the sony drivers. XP home and Pro have the same basic under pining but Pro is much more based on a NT networking system than Home is. But i dont think that should affect your bluetooth hardware.

Did you do your upgrade from win XP home while running windows? some times it helps to do it from a fresh restart and let the computer boot up using the cd-rom.

I would suggest doing a factory restore using your VAIO recovery disks, then try the XP Pro upgrade from booting using the CD. There could be a problem with the bluetooth software running in Pro but i cant see why.

I think that the new Z1XSP is running Pro and so is the TR3MP also the older SRX picture books ran pro with the bluetooth software.

Quite a puzller.

Could always try contacting sony about it.

Also try runing windows update there might be a software patch for XP Pro support of Bluetooth.
