Do I loose Guarantee through modding?

Hi all,

I bought a Sony Vaio FS415S yesterday and it is really cool!!!

Now I wonder if I might bring it to an expert who takes it apart and does some airbrushing on the case.
Does anyone know if I loose guarantee in that case? Is there some modding one is allowed to do without loosing guarantee?

Thanks in advance...

Stefan

Any dismantling apart from adding RAM will invalidate the guarantee.

If you change the HDD or even just add RAM then my advice would be to return the laptop back to "Standard" before any warranty return.

One less thing to argue about.

Dismantling the case to airbrush would be a bit of a giveaway and to all intents and purposes irreversible.

Getting some of the bodywork trim off (eg screen surround) often results in damage as I think they are only designed to snap into place once.

Can't you wait until the warranty expires before deliberately adding blemishes to a Sony inspired piece of art.?

You have only had it ONE day :slight_frown:

BUT I admit each to their own and its your Vaio.

If you want a dog to chew the top corner of the lid and screen surround I can supply one . I never got over that

Maybe it was the dog that killed it when I was out, not the memory slots.

You are either very wise or very lucky, in the UK it is only one year without extended warranty and many of these Vaio's only just struggle past 12 months before expiring .

waiting would be two years as I bought a new one.

I saw notebook modding on TV once and it looked real fancy

Anyway, it isn't worth throwing away guarantee...

I bought it in Germany and we have two years of guarantee here...

I really would like to get it pimped...

I really am getting old,

"The dog pimped my laptop"

definately sounds better than:

the f+++++g dog chewed my laptop and f****d it up.

It wasn't even my dog it was my girlfriend's. I pushed my laptop under the sofa for safe keeping and the little SHITzhu lost one his numerous toys under there and was trying to retrieve it.

so, is there anything to make my Vaio look nicer without loosing guarantee?
how about an airbrush on top of it?

Hi,

I would think that would be OK if it doesn't require any dismantling.

But to be honest I would email Sony about it first.

Warranty is like insurance, they like to take your money but don't like paying up if they don't have to.

ROFLMFAO, the VAIO is probably one of the best looking laptops in the world and you want to mod it?

If you buy at John Lewis in England, they give you a 2 year guarentee.
