hi, im a bit of a novice, so please keep answer simple.
when i turn on my pc, i keep starting in safe mode. looked up in manual done as instructed but it will not change. because of this i can not copy to disc or anything else. Put new virus software on ( which says no virus present,) Also computer is slow. and doing s-t-r-a-n-g-e things. example wont turn of sometimes, thanks hope someone can help. Do you think i will need a new harddrive, thats what pc world are saying.
Well I've looked at both messages and I'm a little confused.
I would get AVG on your PC and do a FULL scan in safe mode
If this doesn't solve it then we need to look into what message you got during boot, which does indicate the hard disk might be duff.
But lets not jump to this conclusion, as you have a virus and this might be it's nasty way of operating
thanks for reply, your confused (think what i am). already done a full scan after installing Mcafee. Conclusion was no virus's.
think it will have to go in for repair.!
I am as confused as both of you, but one thing you could check is the startup default in Boot.ini.
Click Start > Run and type msconfig in the open dialog box, hit return. Click on the Boot.ini tab and make sure that /safeboot doesn’t have a check mark against it.
Also in the top box, on this tab, under [operating systems], you should see something like “multi(0)disk(0)partition(1)\windows=”Microsoft Windows xp” /fastdetect /……
