Has anyone got any idea why my system speaker beeps and why the vaio light @ the front of my unit flashes when Im trying to do something. It seems to happen a lot when doing something in Sim City 4. Is the program overloading the system in some way ?
Any help appreciated
..."the light at the front" just means it's loading, And the beep sound I'm guessing is just windows sounds, i.e. when you click on something or do something the computer doesn't like to much. You can turn off the sound in the control pannel
No its not that, Its the actual speaker inside the main unit. Sounds to me as thought theres an error !
hmm in that case might be a hardware fault, if it's still in warrentry I would get sony to sort it out
H i Smudge i,m sorry to hear that you are having the same trouble as me with beeps and flashes. I have a pcv rx514 and it is always happening to different types of software not only games . I have tried getting in touch with sony vaio uk by phone it took about 20 mins for them to come up with an answer whic was that they didn,t know what was happening. about 2 months latersaying that they would come and pick my pc to test it in their repair shop, but iwas not too happy to do that because i did not want to go without my pc for an undefined amount of time. as i won my pc in a gaming magazine i did not have the option of taking it back to the place of purchase to exchange it . so if you have that option get in touch with the shop and if you can get any joy from them i would be greatfull if you could post the fix on this site. good luck

Its a software problem, try and think when it started and what you installed on ur pc at the time........Then unistall the software/programme what you think it is and re-install it, if it still continues then you have a software conflict.
It happend to me when i installed NHL 2004 about 3 months ago
Also run a virus scan with the latest definitions.
i have been having this problem for a while now and i can,t find what is causing it to happen. is there anything that would help findimg what is causing it besides uninstalling programmes one by one. i have done virus checks and my results came up clean. is there any utility that can be used to find the cause so i know which programme/s to take out . i have tried taking out games and other software but still could not find the conflict. any help would be appreciated thank,s
also is it possible to move software from my c/drive to my d/drive because i don,t have the original discs as i downloaded them from the web onto my pc. just in case i have to use the recovery discs which only recovers my c/drive
hi smudge ..i have been in touch with sony support centre and they have sent me a reply that might help you. this is their reply ...
"the beeps and flashes normally mean that there is a component in your machine that is not rightly plugged or plugged at all, or that the settings within your computer Bios are not the correct ones. please reboot your pc and directly push the F2 key repeatedly to access the Bios. once you are in the bios push F5, then push enter, push F10, push enter. check now if the problem remains, if it does, then check whether the memory is correctly plugged ".
iv,e tried this and my pc seems OK so far. i did the Bios part first because i am not too confident about entering my machine to fiddle around . i hope this helps
