Hello,
I have tryed to upgrade to XP pro but it fails (appears a message "Virtual memory not enough"). Anyone have had success or could try?
I also installed the XP pro formating previosly C: but now when I try to read the Vaio restore CD it appears "Run time Error 53". How to solve this?.
Sony support has told me that they don't support other preinstalled software. How this could be possible for a laptop or 2500 Euros???. I was not alerted when I bought it and the seller told me that as it was not possible to buy a vaio with XP pro in my country then I could buy it and then upgrade without problems (also the Master sony of this club told me the same).
Thanks a lot and best regards,
Javi
Sweet - happy to hear you sorted it.
Sony Master I have not sorted it. I don't know how to install the downloaded drivers. For example, in the preinstalled XP home I see in the Add programs menu in the control panel "Nvidia..." but in XP pro installed in partition 😧 I don' see anything. So how to install the dowloaded drivers from E-support??
I have also installed the utils but I am still unable to read the restore CD to install the rest of the programs "Error 53 file not found" message still appears.
I am starting to be quite frustrated.
thanks a lot to the helpers and best regards,
Javi
Am I right in thinking that you have recovered XP Home to your C: partition and XP pro has been clean installed to your 😧 partition?
If so then your drivers would normally be in c:\drivers and you should be able to use update drivers and point the search for compatible drivers to the appropriate folder in c:\drivers
The sony utilities and dlls are different for different model ranges.
By the way - my name is Rob and the Sony master title just means I've made a lot of posts.
Sorry Rob,
I would thank you if you could tell me how todo the update the drivers in XP, I'm new to XP. Yes, I have installed in C: XPHome and in 😧 XPpro.
In the XPpro I am unable to see Nvidia, etc in the add programs (control panel) so in XP Home seems like more things have been installed. Also the Sony Setup Program doesn't work in XPpro (tells me error).
Thanks a lot for the answers,
Javier
Start your computer in XP Pro. Click Start - Control Panel.
If your Control panel is in category view mode then click Performance and maintenance - System.
If your Control panel is in classic view mode then double click System.
Click the hardware tab. Click device manager. Click the + next to Display adapters. Double click the display adapter.
Click the driver tab. Click update driver. Select 'Install from a list or specific location'. Click Next.
Put a tick in the 'Include this location in the search' checkbox and click the browse button. Using the file dialogue browse to the video driver folder inside c:\drivers. Click Next.
Follow the rest of the on screen instructions and with a bit of luck your video drivers will be installed.
Hope this helps.
