I am new here, not sure where to post this or the ettiquette here. Sorry if I get it wrong.
This week, I have bought a Sony KDL-32WD754BU TV for use in a bedroom. It is hooked up to a Sky Box and a Sony SRS-ZR5 speaker which I have had for some time. The speaker uses the HDMI 1 (ARC) socket in the TV and is ARC compatible. The Sky Box uses HDMI 2. Using options, the sound is set to the speaker.
Mostly, all is good. Using Sky, the sound comes from the speaker (which is great BTW and much superior to the TV sound). The speaker also produces the sound properly if playing music or videos either from my network or from a USB device pluuge dinto the Tv or into the speaker. (I have no aerial access in this room.)
The probelm is the Apps. If I try BBC News, Sport or iPlayer or Demand 5 I can get no sound through the speaker. I have to change to TV speaker to get sound. However, You Tube does work ok, the sound does come through the speaker. (I have not tried the other Apps as yet).
Does anyone have any clue as to why I have this problem with the apps. Is it normal - to be expected - or am I doing something wrong?
Hi there,
Have you tried a factory reset?
Best wishes,
M
Hello Michael
Thank you for your suggestion. You mean restoring the factory settings? Yes, I tried this but it made no difference.
Thank you anyway.
Graham
I am experiencing the same issue with a new (Dec 2017) Sony KD49XE8396BU Smart TV. My TV is also set up with a Sky Box connection and sound is provided via an external soundbar. My internet connection is via a reasonably fast (40mbs) service with an ethernet cable feed from the router directly into the TV. Everything works perfectly when watching the TV via the Sky connection and also when using the pre-installed YouTube and Netflix apps. However, if I try switching to any of the TVs catch-up apps (BBC iplayer, BBC News, 5 on demand etc) I immediately lose all sound. I have tried checking the TVs sound settings, a factory reset and a total sutdown and restart - but all to no avail. I am mystified as to why the sound function works fine with some apps (Youtube, Netflix) but not at all with others (BBC iplayer). Any advice / suggestions would be gratefully received.
I bought a Sony 75" tv january 2018 and initially had no issues with sound from the apps. After an update was performed the result was no audio from apps(netflix and youtube) maybe others. and to add to my frustration now the voice search is not working after the last firmware update. That is not what I expect from Sony products.
Hi anacosta01,

Hi @anacosta01 and welcome to the UK Community
If you're running Oreo now then you may be experiencing some teething troubles.
Are you using the TV speakers or a soundbar etc?
Sony are advising not to update to Oreo due to problems when using a sound bar / home theatre system.
Have a look Here
Even if you're not its possible there could just be glitches with a new version of Android.
Here are some suggested workarounds.
Failing that you may have to perform a factory reset to see if that helps.
Here are the instructions for your model.
Keep us posted
I did update to the latest, as I lost audio with netflix on the previous update. now youtube no audio also. I did a factory reset and no help, same issue. I use ARC sound system for audio. 4k player and ps4 no issues with sound using apps thru TV, only when using apps via TV.
