Unplugged TV from mains whilst away for 2 weeks.
On return plugged back into mains. Now i'm getting audio but no picture! Tried turning on/off several times. The Input shows for about a second at the top then fades away. Sometimes SONY shows on screen. Backlight is on. Remote works fine. I can't get the menu or anything else up on screen to do any settings.
Help please!
Hi @emesee
Seems like a hardware issue.
You said that you were away for about two weeks.
There is a new firmware for your set at :
https://www.sony.co.uk/support/en/product/KDL-40W705C
Solves some issues but does not mention yours.
Check if above link is the right firmware for your model and region.
Then follow the USB Update procedure following detailed instructions.
This might solve your issue.
Hi there
In addition to what MiCal1967 says above:
Cheers
Thanks for your replies

I've downloaded the new firmware onto a USB stick plugged it into the TV. The on screen display briefly came on for a split second (only saw it once in my many attempts in switching it on) before it disappeared hence unable to carry out any instructions on screen.
BTW can't get any menus etc on screen.

Tried your suggestions but still the same.
If it is a hardware problem any thoughts anyone which pcb is faulty?
Thanks for any more tips
Hi @emesee
Have you done a firmware Update via USB before?
Check your USB flash. Must be a fat32 formatted not NTFS or other.
Sometimes you may need to try another USB flash drive.
I don't know if you have to put the .bin file on USB root and not the folder that SONY SAYS and calls this a file sony_dtv0FA40A06A0A6_00003100
When your TV is powered ON, can you access [System Settings] → [General Set-up] → [Factory Settings] ?
If so, try a factory reset:

Hi MiCal1967
I think what emesee is getting at is that the TV is not displaying ANY picture at all. Hence a blank screen. So maybe a hardware failure.
Unfortunately emesee will need to either contact the retailer (if its under warrantee) or a Sony repair centre to get it repaired - as it looks like a hardware failure.
Repair centres can be located via:

Hi Quinnicus
Yes most possible reason is a hardware issue.
Can try the new firmware, if possible to start of course...

Hi @emesee
I have moved your issue to the Other TV section, as your TV is not an Android based TV.
However there is another procedure to Factory reset the TV without having a picture on the screen. Can you please try the instructions in this link and see if it works:
Cheers
Thanks for all your inputs.
I have tried factory resetting but not worked
As for formatted USB's/.bin files/roots etc it is not something i have experience of. Can someone advise me how to go about it?
Many thanks again.
BTW it is not under guarantee.
