Cannot HD record...no digital guide

I have a sony bravia 32CX523 have registered my drive on the TV with no problems. But when I try to record, it will not let me go into the guide. Says I need digital. I know I am probably being stupid but we have freesat  via HDMi 1, does this mean that unless I am using freeview via an arial, I cannot use the HD record?

Very annoying as I have foormatted the drive which I bought especially to allow this function. If anyone can advise me I would really appreciate it

Correct.

As the TV has a Freeview Tuner, and the HDD is registered via the TV. To record, you must go via the Freeview built into the TV.

Maybe investing in a Freesat PVR might be better in your instance?

Thanks..had the feeling that would be the case! will now have to reformatt the drive so can use it elsewhere.
