I believe I accidentally enabled encryption on my storage (internal and SD card) because I cannot play movies from the card, using Xperia Companion file manager, and dragging and dropping the files on various players I have installed on my PC. This used to work OK before I fiddled with encryption. Please see attached pic. (Even repairing the Xperia software via Xperia Companion and reinstalling the movies didn't help.)
