STR-DN1080 Setting Menu breaks up

I purchase a an STR-DN1080 amp a few days ago and started to set up using the amp menu displayed on the TV. 

After making some adjustment, the menu disappeared from screen all I could see were multicolour vertical lines  and hissing or crackling sound . The AV amp remote also seized and wouldn't respond to any buttons. I had to switch the amp off and take the electric plug out. After waiting for some time, I switched it back on and it worked, then the next day it happened again. 

It seems to happen at any time into the setting menu or on any type adjustment being made. Sometimes it doesn’t happen at all.

That sounds a bit unusual, maybe it's a software glitch. Have you tried resetting the amplifier to factory settings as explained in the Help Guide: http://bit.ly/2Wwyc8e?

I get the same problem when HDMI passthrough is set to Auto. (I have a Sony TV)

I'm returning the unit as faulty.

I did the reset, but it kept flashing "Clearing" for 24 hours! I returned the unit, my 2nd Sony AV Amp in 1 month with the same problem, and bought a Yamaha RVX 685 instead  

I don't know how such a fault prone amp managed to get so many 5 stars reviews; Sony must have paid the reviewers. It may sound great but the manufacturing quality is rubbish.
