Hi. I have a DAV IS10 DVD player that I need to make standalone. This will require converting the Communications Cable into a power cable only but to do this, the cable elements carrying power to the DVD Player from Subwoofer Unit need to be identified & the appropriate voltage supplied. Does anyone know which cable elements carry power & the voltage required? TIA.
Let’s stand the question on its head. There are 25 pins in the connector for that control cable. How do you know that you just need to know which ones are power? There could be several that must carry a signal before the unit will respond.
The connector is probably a standard 25-pin D-SUB, though I doubt it is wired in any standard way. You’ll need to get a 25-pin breakout board - plenty on Amazon - put it in the circuit, and then with the whole DAV system powered up, disconnect each pin in turn to see what stops working.
Though I’m not convinced any of the breakout boards there let you break connections - they seem to let you just tap into them, not quite what you want. You’d have to ask.
But such a board would easily let you connect your new source of power, and feed it into that cable, once you have found out what voltages/amperages on which pins you need. I take it you have a multimeter, and know how to use it?
But I will tell you what would be a lot simpler. Keep the DAV as is, sell it or scrap it, and buy a brand new 2024 Sony DVD player, about £40. Unless you are in love with the smell of solder, and jury-rigged setups…
