Hello all, i’ve Just bought and set up my new 1080 and it’s almost perfect except for one thing. For some reason whenever I switch inputs (I.e to Netflix or turn on the PlayStation) the input switches ok but then just after the home screen pops up. This is really annoying as it means I then need to press the home button on the amp remote and I can’t just use 1 remote to control everything. Searching the net shows other people have solved this by disabling HDMI CEC but I really don’t want to do this as it would still mean having to switch the inputs manually.
Anybody have any ideas on how to solve this? many thanks in advance.
I toatally agree. I've installed the latest firmware and got top HDMI cables - no changes. Actually, it's much slower now
Just adding my voice to the list of frustrated owners.
My 1080 switches to the Home menu 5-10 seconds after powering on (but takes a while to bring the menu up fully). Pressing the desired input button again does close the Home screen but it then takes another couple of seconds for the amp to display the desired input again.
It doesn't seem to happen when switching inputs, which is better, but I have had some trouble with it changing to my Chromecast randomly.
My old 1040 didn't do this and I can't disable HDMI Control as I use the ARC feature.
Really frustrating!
It's also really frustrating to see Sony moderators and specialists replying to other topics and ignoring this one!
+1 to all the other posts on this. I need to use HDMI control for ARC, but disabling HDMI control is the only way of disabling the Home screen from appearing.
I know it's not a solution for most people on here, but I'm able to reduce the amount of times it appears by selecting the input THREE times using an activity in my Harmony remote. It selects the first input, followed by another one straight away, and then another one 15 seconds later. Even then, you still get it appearing now and again, because the amp is so slow at changing inputs and displaying the Home screen.
This amp has so many settings and options in its menus, it's incredible that you can't disable the Home screen from appearing.
Even tho my double-tap solution relieves the problem in most cases, it’s still sometimes gives me the Home screen because of the delays.
I had raised a ticket directly with Sony. A chap called Kamal had emailed back and forth a few times, but he did try to blame my Sky Q box as the cause (even tho over the phone we ran various tests, including having only my Playstation plugged in and the issue still occurred.
I haven’t heard from Kamal for about 6 weeks now. If any of you fancy bombarding Sony with emails about the issue, here’s the email address and Case ID:

Done. See what happens, if anything!
Done (email to ***editing out email details*** about Case ID ***). Hope for the best!
Also logged with Sony - case ref 17600336
Initially was asked try try some things, which I did and as expected made no difference, so they have passed it for further investigation. Have nopw been asked was this issue there from the start etc! I have provided a link to this topic in my respose.
Done
Well, I got my answer from Sony today. Basically they deny the problem exists ont their end and declare it lies with the TV and they cannot garantee compatibility with other brands. The fact that after changing inputs the Amp correctly switches the Audio channel and the new picture is displayed for a second before the Home Menu comes up is apparently no sign that the TV is working as intended.
They came up however with a solution they graciously proveded me with: turn off the Amp and no more Home Menu popping up.
Be sure that the Amp is being returned as I write this. I will never again consider buying this brand. This attitude and level of condescension towards customer problems is simply unacceptable.

Dear ****
Thank you for contacting Sony Support.
In regards to your query related to your Sony device model STR-DN1080, please accept our apologies for the inconvenience you are facing with the Home Menu popping on the screen.
Please note that this issue is not related to the Sony AV Receiver, as it is related to the TV used. If you have another Sony TV, please connect the AV Receiver to it to test it and advise. In this regards, please note that we don't guarantee the functionality of our devices working properly with other brands.
As a workaround, please note that you can use the AV Receiver while in standby mode so that you don't get the Home Menu showing on the screen again when you turn on the TV. Please check the below link with the steps to turn on Standby Through functionality:

Should you have any further questions, please reply to this email.

That's not good, but it is likely to be an incompatibility issue between device brands that's causing it. I'm using an LG TV, and I have had problems in the past with their implementation of HDMI-CEC handshaking with other equipment - check this thread as an example of other related LG CEC issues. And let's face it, CEC isn't great to begin with (hopefully when eARC arrives on TV's next year, manufacturers will implement a version that does not require CEC to be switched on). But as always with this sort of problem, the TV manufacturer will say it's Sony and Sony will say it's the TV (as evident from your support case) - and we're just stuck in the middle.
Is there anyone in this thread that has the Home Screen problem and is also using a Sony TV? Or maybe can test it with a Sony TV?
Maybe that is why Denon compatibility is pretty strong. They do not have a TV product and probably run tests across a number of different brands. Sony probably only test their equipment on other Sony equipment. As you say, the only way of dealing with this is not to use Sony in future, as it's unlikely their support for device compatibility is ever going to change. Whilst it's not as bad as it used to be a few years back, Sony does have a culture of not supporting the standards that everyone else does (think Mini Disc, MemoryStick, ATRAC, etc.).
