Not used tv since before xmas and it was stored in a damp garage, now took the tv to work and when you turn it on the stand b light is flashing? Does this mean that its damp/cold and needs to warm up/dry out?

If the stanby light is flashing red then this indicates that the TV's self  diagnosis mode has been activated, it's probably best that you contact your local  authorised Sony service centre and inform the them of the sequence that  the Standby light flashes.
