No sound through HDMI on soundbar

Hi!

I've tried to follow the instructions on other similar posts by haven't managed to solve this yet.

I've just bought a Sony XE83 4K android TV and a Sony HT-CT290 soundbar, the combo works with the optical cable but I cannot seem to get the HDMI sound to work.

I'm pretty sure HDMI control is on as when I turn the telly on the soundbar turns on, also when I use the remote for the soundbar it changes the volume on the TV.  The device is also featured on the bravia sync device list.

I'm sure it's something obvious I'm missing or is there a compatibility issues with these two devices?

Any help greatly appreciated!

Have you already set your TV speakers to 'Audio System' (details here)?

Yep done that, the system sounds continue to come out of the television but nothing from the soundbar.

The HDMI cable I'm using is a 10gbps one is that fast enough?

I've checked and the speed of the cable shouldn't matter, it's the quality that counts.
