KD-49XE8005 and external speaker

I have had this TV for about 6 months and as I don't have the volume on high, don't watch movies etc I have never felt the need for an external speaker. However, I recently purchased a non-Sony soundbar as it was on a good offer. However, the TV will not find it via bluetooth but my phone/tablet/laptop all do. I tried the optical connection which does work, but you can't control the volume using the TV remote, you have to use the remote that came with the soundbar. So after a few searches via Google I used the aux cable that came with the soundbar as I read that's the only way that you can control the volume using the Sony TV remote, but all that happens there is a load buzzing noise from the soundbar. There are no new updates for the TV so I am at a loss. Any suggestions please?

Hi @botty1963

Normal connection is a HDMI cable connected to the TV’s ARC HDMI. If the soundbar doesn’t have a HDMI connection then your choices are very limited. What is the make/model of the soundbar?

Hi Botty1963,

To my knowledge, your TV doesn't support connecting to a sound bar via Bluetooth in the first place, so I wouldn't consider it a fault on the part of the Sound bar or the TV in this case.

As @LightFoot mentioned, HDMI ARC would be your best chance to get the best quality and features at the same time as the TV supports control for HDMI.
