Bravia KDL32RE403BU starts playing mp4 movie from memory stick but then cuts out

the movies seem to just stop after 45 to 55 minutes and a message comes up saying no media detected. bought the tv for a friend and he doesn't have Internet access so its not had its system updated. wonder if that's the problem or something else. any help appreciated.  just as a side note the files size are pretty large about 4 gb and the movie run time is about 2hrs or so
