Blu-ray/DVD player BDP-S4100 does not play discs

Hi all!

Just under a year ago I purchased a Blu-ray/DVD player (BDP-S4100) that worked fine till about a month ago. The problem is that disc will get to the menu but when pressing the 'play' button it will not play past the menu..I have tried pressing 'play' on the remote control and the play button on the actual player itself but to no avail. There are no error messages either.

Is there any solution to this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Might enquire from what film company is the problem disc? If it's by 20th Century Fox or 20th Century-Fox/Columbia (which is a division of SONY Pictures.) it's well documented here that Sony BD Players have difficulty playing these kind of discs. The post mentioned in the link above has been running now for 2 years and as yet Sony have refused to take action.

You might think it quite incredible that a Sony BD Player struggles to play some Sony discs but what's more incredible is that these very same Sony discs do play perfectly fine on non Sony devices. You'd think that Sony would be highly embarrassed by this inadequacy in their products but perhaps not, their lack of interest or proper support for those affected speak volumes.
