BDV-N7200W with ARC makes incredibly loud high pitched noise

Hello!

I just set up my BDV-N7200W to my new Samsung smart TV.  I connected the ARC port on the TV to the ARC port on the Sony.  When I turn on the Sony, the speakers make this crazy high pitched noise / squeal / whine.  It's ridiculously loud.  Sound from the TV doesn't come through and it happens even when the TV is off.  All I get is this screamingly loud sound.

What can I do to stop this?  I'd rather not have to use optical on my brand new system.

**EDIT**  It turns out that it makes this noise even if nothing is plugged in, so I'm assuming it needs to be returned.

Unit was defective.
