HDD RECORDING

Hi

i have a Sony KDL32WE613 and a RDR HXD995 dvd recorder/player with a hard drive. 

I want to know if I can record from the TV to the hard drive of the DVD player via a usb cable? The player has freeview and I can record if I use the menu (very dated) on the DVD player - but I’d like to use the menu on my much newer tv. I’ve tried a couple of usb drives but the tv doesn’t ever recognise them when I try to format. Will the tv recognise the drive on the DVD player if I link via usb?

I don't believe this would be possible to do, but I'm not entirely sure. 

Perhaps another member may be able to update this thread with more details.
