Further to my recent question about DVD problems on my Sony HXD-870 DVD recorder, before I give it up as a bad job, I did one more thing that might give any of you guys a clue....
I burned a couple of brand new blank DVD-R disks (ie NOT rewritable) and I also tried a few shop-bought DVD's and they all played just fine. However, when I put in my own previously burned DVD rewriteables the machine spat them out as being "incompatible", even though over the years it has had no problem accepting them. Now, it doesn't want to know them !! This makes me think the lens itself is possibly OK. Is this likely or is there an explanation why I now have this particular problem. (My DVD-RW were all branded, either TDK or Polaroid)
The only thing left to try would be a factory reset. Could it be a firmware problem or is this unlikely ??
Again, any help greatly appreciated.
Hi @barryman99,
The HXD-870 recorder should be working fine with (+RW and -RW), but if they were burned as a double layer, that will make the player shows incompatible error message, you can check the player specifications from here: https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/home-video-dvd-players-recorders/rdr-hxd870/specification....
In case you are using a compatible DVD already, a factory reset is worth a try as it may fix the issue. You can learn more about the factory reset from here on page 158: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/res/manuals/3113/31137601M.pdf.
