Sony DSC-HX300 : software needed to upload/edit photos

Hi - I've inherited a Sony DSC-HX300 camera but not with any relevant software. I've plugged the camera into my mac but it's not registering that there is a device. Do I have to download a specific software to access the photos? Thanks
