HDR 780 Lens filter

I have a filter to protect the lens on my HDR 780.  If I fit the filter I cannot fit the lens hood.  It won't fix on properly.  It seems to be  a filter or the lens hood but not both which is odd.

I am not sure but if your filter features a 52mm filter thread on the side not facing the camera you should be able to mount the lens hood on it. Have you tried?
