4k camera, playback and editing

Hi guys, I recently bought an action cam that supports 4k and also HD with high fps modes and high bitrates. The problem is that I haven't found any program that can playback the clips I shoot. I have tried playmemories for both windows and mac but both om them lag when viewing the HD clips with higher fps. I wonder if there is a better program or media player that works better for playing back the footage? 

I use a macbook pro from 2011 with os x 10.11.1 I think. 

I also wonder what program you recomend for editing with?

On Windows 8.1 and 10 for palyback of videos straight from the camera, I use, Media Player Classic, VLC. For editing I used Play Memories Home, Action Cam Movie Creator, Corel Video Studio Pro X8, and recently I tried Windows Movie Maker and it worked fine. I can't tell you anything for Mac. If it doesn't play them properly it could be because the computer could be old and slow, not because of the software.
