My problem I have is that DTS HD-Master Audio is not being passed through to my AV receiver when appropriate material is played from an app on the TV. I have a Denon x2700H AV receiver and an Nvidia Shield TV device directly attached to the TV. TV to AVR is via eARC HDMI.
When I play a DTS-HDMA source from any app on the TV (PLEX or File Manager or Media Player) the audio is not passed through. DTS HD_Master Audio is downmixed to DTS. If I play the same source from the Nvidia Shield TV (Itself an Android device) DTS HD-MA is correctly passed through and this is shown on the Denon AVR. So "Passthrough" works but not direct play.
The same occurs whether the Digital Output is Auto1, Auto2 or PCM. Passthrough=auto. Atmos and Dolby codes passthrough is OK so connectivity is not the issue.
Any thoughts please? I bought the TV specifically to play DTS HD-MA so I am rather dissapointed if this cannot be corrected. I was hoping to retire the Nvidia Shield.
Thanks,
Ian
An Engineer came and visited on September 16th. He didn't have an answer and Sony has yet to respond to them as at October 18th.☹️
I think you will need to follow up with them still, however, in the sea of compatibility I think you're lost my friend!
What I mean is that you won't really get an answer why it won't work as the answer will always be ''your TV supports it, so it's not us'', so keeping your Nvidia shield will be the way to go I guess, cheers.
Why has this been marked as "Solved". I have been presented an explanation or a solution?
I continue to chase but Sony have not responded.
Not solved!!
Sony have decide after 3 months that the Microphone Board needs to be replaced.
So perhaps they do think the TV should passthrough audio from the applications to the external AV receiver. We shall see.
Sony have today replaced the Microphone/RC board. As anticipated it did not resolve the issue. Just a very lazy response from Sony.
However I take their action as meaning the DTS-X and Dolby Amos capabilities should work as I have described to them otherwise there would be no need to repair.
A replacement set won't resolve the issue as it isn't a hardware matter so waiting to see Sony's response.
Very disappointed in Sony.
Hey ianrattew, thanks for updating the thread, please keep us in the loop. I'm so curious to know what happens next.
