Hello this is my first post on here so hopefully someone can offer some advice, I have a pretty simple setup with my PS4 Pro and Sony UBP-X800 to HDMI's 1 and 2 and then my Sony HT-RT5 connected to the ARC HDMI 3 in my Sony Bravia XE9305 TV so I can control everything using my TV remote. I thought everything was fine with PS4 Pro outputting in DTS Surround sound and the UHD Dark Knight Trilogy also doing the same both with the passthrough but when I tried 4K Blade Runner 2049 it was only outputting Dolby Digital Stereo
After looking at the back of the blu-ray boxes I realised that only the blu-rays and 4k blu-rays with DTS 5.1 worked with the HDMI pass through but standard Dolby Digital 5.1 did not, I tried many blu-rays and every one with DTS 5.1 displayed on the box information worked so I know what the issue is. I have tried changing with a few options in HT-RT5, Sony UBP-X800 and Bravia TV but really don't know what I doing so a little guidance would be appreciated.
So why would 5.1 Dolby Surround sound not work with the pass through but DTS 5.1 does? and what HDMI do I need to be fiddling with, I'm guessing HDMI 3 ARC as that passes the audio through? I know I could hook up another HDMI cable from the 4k blu-ray player to the HT-RT5 but I'd prefer not to really as it caused problems I first started setting it up and would prefer to have everything goes throught the ARC
I find it all pretty confusing with the amount of options I can change in all the HDMI's and devices but at least I know what the issue is, I hope so hear back from anyone who knows more about these things than I do, thanks in advance
Hi ricgill0,
I'll see if I can find this out for you. Maybe someone else in the community can help in the meantime.
Thanks,
Pascale
Thanks for the help I will keeping looking, might call tech support tomorrow too
Hi ricgill0,
Welcome to our community!
You mentioned you have the PS4 and the UBP-X800 connected to HDMI ports 1 and 2 but didn't mention if it's on the TV or the soundbar. Could you clarify this?
If you have them connected to the soundbar could you try connecting them to the TV if possible and test the outcome?

I have both the UBP-x800 and PS4 Pro connnected to the TV and then the TV connected from the HDMI 3 (ARC) to the ARC compatible HDMI 1 in the back of the soundbar, Netflix and Amazon Prime App's on the TV also both output 5.1 through to the soundbar. The issue I have is standard 5.1 Dolby Surround compatible Blu-ray's and 4k Blu-ray's not passing through. Could it be that the settings in the blu-ray player and the TV could be changed to enable Dolby Digital 5.1, it makes no sense that DTS works fine but DD doesnt, thank you
Hi ricgill0,
Have you tried to tweak some of the audio settings on your UBP-x800?
Make sure to set BD Audio MIX Setting to off, DTS Neo:6 to off and Downmix to surround.
This should ensure that the original audio signal will not be downmixing or compressed.
Let us know if this makes a difference

Thank you I have fiddled with those blu-ray player settings before but not sure if ive done all 3 at the same time, i will try this later on this evening and see how it goes
Yes I tried all those settings and still only get 'Dolby Stereo Digital' on the Dolby Digital 5.1 blu-rays. Of course DTS surround sounds comes through fine with the DTS Dolby Digital 5.1 enabled Blu-rays. I will upload pictures of the audio information on back of the blu-rays boxes and the audio being passed through. You can see 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest' is standard DD 5.1 but outputs in Dolby Stereo Digital but Moon outputs in the correct DTS surround sound, thanks in advance
I added the pictures below but for some reason it turns the images upside down anyway I hope you can make it out
