I have two Sony TV’s (55AF8 OLED and 49XG9005) and are very pleased with them both except for one common issue.
HDR performance on both sets is very poor from all sources such as in built Disney+, Netflix and Prime apps, Sky Q and the inbuilt Video app. Whenever HDR kicks in it is as if the contrast and brightness have been instantly turned down to 20% with everything looking dull and lifeless. I have tweaked all settings and no significant improvements occur.
It is that bad that I have now resorted to using an old Apple TV to watch Netflix (as luckily with Prime you can opt to watch the HD versions), and choose the watch non UHD Sky programmes too.
I appreciate that there are way worse things going on these days, but it is very frustrating (especially as I have a friend that has an LG OLED and the HDR (and Dolby Vision) performance is eye poppingly brilliant. I am regretting not going for LG now - something I never thought that I would ever say....
Hi @JBB699
It's worth pointing out that due to the way HDR works, the maximum brightness is reduces to achieve the effect. You can disable it in the settings if you wish.
