My TV does not connect to the remote. Changed battery still was not connected then decided to buy a new remote but the problem remains the same. The TV function perfectly fine. Can you all help me please what should I do?
Thanks
First have you checked to see that both remote controls are emitting a signal using your camera phone.
Switch the camera on the phone and point the signal end of the remote at the camera lens, press any button o
n the remote and if you see a light on screen the remote is fine.
When you point the remote(s) at the TV do you get a confirmation flash of the LED on the TV as it picks up the
the signal from the remote(s).
If the TVs LED does not respond to any buttons pressed on the remote(s) it would indicate that the Infra Red receiver board on the TV has failed. Unfortunately on such an old TV a repair would be financially unviable.
So do you fancy a new telly?
Good morning daveyh64
Thank you for getting back to me.
So first of all, I have read the instruction given below but am not sure if have followed this information correctly especially on the first part about 'remotes emitting signal'. As I didn't see anything. However, I can see a flashing light on my new remote.
Also, there is no LED flash on TV as the TV itself does not respond to any button I press on my new remote. But it responded only once on my old remote when I switched on the TV. But when I tried to switch the TV off/press other buttons , there was no flashing lights shown.
Yes! I would love to have a new TV but not at this moment. I only had this TV for 3 years and 5 months. So, I never thought I would experience such problem at this early stage.
Here is a Sony article to see if your IR remote control is emitting a signal.

Having done that and the remote is emitting a signal you can dismiss the remote as the problem.
With a working remote press any of the buttons on the remote, does the TVs LED respond,
if not it is probably an issue with the TV.
Are you certain that the replacement remote is compatible with your Sony TV model.
Do you have another Sony remote, or perhaps can borrow one from a neighbour, relative or friend
and test on your TV. Other Sony TV remotes may not have full functionality with your TV model
but operations like Power On/ Off, Channel +/- and Vol +/- should work.
Or take your remotes to another Sony TV and see if these functions work.
TVs can break down at any time from day one. TVs these days will not last anywhere the length of
time TVs did in the past using older technology.
Where did you buy your TV some resellers like John Lewis and Richer Sounds give automatic multi year warranties (5 and 6 years respectively), do you know the length of warranty your TV came with.
At the time of purchase your TV may have been included in a Sony promotion for a 5 year warranty,
if it was you would have had to register the TV with Sony and make a separate application for the extended
warranty within a set period of time after purchase.
If your TV is out of warranty then you may want to make enquiries as to the estimated cost of repair.
As that might be more than what the TV is worth a new TV is probably the best option.
