Just started having problems with Netflix 5.1 default giving distorted sound through the soundbar. No problems if Netflix 5 selected.
Just want to make sure the problem is likely to be the soundbar before I invest in a new system
Would disconnecting arc be a possible solution and only using optical cable?

Could be a cable issue. I would recommend to test with optical cable only.
If the issue persists with 5.1 I would recommend to reboot the TV/soundbar and see it this solves the issue.
If there's no issue with optical cable only I would go and buy an new quality HDMI cable.

Thanks. I notice Sony have a notice about issues with some soundbars and Netflix 5.1 with some hardware or software updates required but no mention of the CT260 so it maybe it is a soundbar issue.
