I thought I'd create a generic thread to cover off the issues being encountered on the 2015 Bravia Android TVs. I've listed my issues below with fixes / workarounds and responses from support. All comments and solutions welcome!
1) Hot Swap HDMI doesn't work - manifested by no input on HDMI channels 2, 3 and 4 on the KD-49X8305C. Workaround - reset the TV, either by holding down the remote power button for 5 seconds or by switching the TV off at the wall and then back on again. Further details on this thread: https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/kd-49x8305c-hdmi-2-3-4-inputs-not-working/td-p/1944435
2) HDD Recording doesn't work - error message states a system update is required but none is available when checking. Hopefully this will be fixed soon by a firmware update.
3) Netflix App doesn't work - this seems like the app has been deliberately disabled. So far a support case has only recommended that a factory reset be performed (took two days to get to that cracking piece of advice.....), with no improvement as a result. A temporary (albeit for advanced users only) workaround is provided by MikeLothian on this thread - https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/televisions/netflix-support-for-kd55x8509c-android-tv/td-p/1945360
4) Sound lag and performance issues after the TV (KD-49X8305C) has been on standby for a while - manifested for me as stuttering and sound / picture sync issues in all apps (youtube, amazon instant video etc) and HDMI sources (PS4, seperate YouView box etc). Hopefully this will be fixed in a firmware update, at the moment workarounds involve either changing channels to get the sync to work or in my case having to turn the TV off and then on again at the socket.
As stated previously, all comments welcome. Personally I'm willing to give Sony a couple of weeks to fix this, but if it's not done soon I'll be sending my new TV back for a refund as it's not really fit for purpose.
I have this problem only when I turn tv on I solve it with a power cycle. I logged it on an earlier post.
Well folks, I'm bailing out on this thread and community. With the never ending list of issues appearing daily on my 49X8309 I have returned it and the XT1 soundstage to Currys this morning and purchased a Samsung 48JU7000 which I take delivery on the 26th. Hopefully this will satisfy my requirements after this 8 week Sony nightmare.
I wish ash you all the best (and luck!) if you decide to persevere with these TVs.
I did a full reset before manually searching for the update. That way everything was fresh. After the update everything was fine. As a matter of fact, not had one issue or any of the new ones people were experiencing like cast.
However, before reading your reply, and only now just been able to, we had a powercut! So had to do a Factory reset because it messed everything up, not just the TV but NAS, router and others. But I am now getting issues again, lip sync, slow UI and the infamous exclamation mark has appeared.
I am in the process of rebooting the routers and having a look at other things, but yeah, the "Buzz" noise is still there when you pause and unpause using surround. As a side note, I guesse these TV's don't like unexpected powercuts!
@johndstephen83 - I wish you all the best with your new Sammy TV. It is a pity that there are so many issues. I am sure that Sony will address them, its just "how long".
I've got a few issues to report and it would be great if anyone else can confirm these issues if they are having it so that they can be listed on the confirmed ' 2015 Android Bugs and Issues' thread for Sony to address.
Software Version: PKG2.605.0052EUB
TV Model: KD-55X8507C
1. Videos not playing in Full Screen in the native 'Videos' app.
Description:
Videos sometimes appear on the top right corner or sometimes in the centre at a smaller display size. Here's a picture of what I mean:
The videos are in native UHD resolution (3840x2160) in the .TS format with HEVC codec. Have also had problems with UHD videos in .mp4 format. The problem seems to occur mostly with 4K (UHD) content. These are all videos being played from a USB 3.0 stick plugged into the USB 3.0 port on the rear of the TV.
Rebooting TV or killing the app does not seem to solve the issue most of the time. Issue appears most of the time, though not all the time. Did not have this issue at all with the previous software version and is definitely down to the recent software update.

2. Inputs sometimes appears blank (blank screen)
Description:
When selecting a particular input, e.g. 'HDMI 1' or 'HDMI 3', a blank black screen would appear just as though there is no input connected. The devices are definitely working, turned on and outputting a signal but there is no picture or sound. Other inputs would work, but a particular input (e.g. HDMI 3) would just show a blank screen. There is no "No signal" message shown which was introduced in the latest software update.
A reboot seems to fix the issue but the problem does seem to occur quite regularly and with different devices.
Picture:
No picture required - just a blank screen when you select e.g. HDM1 or HDMI 4 etc.
3. Headphone Jack does not output enough sound
Description
With the purchase of my TV, I was given a free Sony HT-CT80 soundbar as part of Sony's promotion. The soundbar is connected to the 3.5mm headphone jack on the TV as this is the only way I can control the volume of the soundbar using the TV's remote control (cannot seem to do this with the optical output from the TV).
The Sony HT-CT80 soundbar automatically turns off every 15 minutes due to not being able to detect a live audio input even though the soundbar is actually receiving sound from the TV and playing it perfectly well. I accept that this is a feature of the soundbar but looking at the Sony forums for this soundbar, we are told that the Soundbar isn't getting a strong enough sound output for the soundbar to detect an input. Can Sony fix this issue with their TV?
Thanks.
Ok, reset routers, that's got rid of the exclamation!
Reboot TV, UI is faster, lip sync seems to be gone on both HDMI and TV speakers.
"Bizz" noise though... Nope, still there.

You havent reset the tv after you installed the latest firmware?
I figured what is causing the blank screen when going in to settings or loading TV guide ( and maybe others, not tested )
So my question is why does it switch the receiver to TV under these circumstances?
Not until now, no! That was because after the update, everything was good! I put that down to doing a reset before the update, didnt see a need to reset afterwards as all worked as if it should from out of the box lol. But as I say, in the past few hours, we had a powercut, messed s**t up, so have done a reset now.... that then gave me other issues I am sorting through now.
Seem to have sorted them, but the "bizz" from pausing on surround sound is still there after all that reboot and reset.
Hi @Risc0n
Thanks for the detailed response to this issue. For a few years now, I occasionally have been getting a blank screen when swapping from TV broadcasts to a HDMI connection on my AV Receiver (STR-DH820) - this used to happen on my 2011,2013 and now 2015 TV. A full powercycle fixes this. Again, doesnt happen all the time. I have put it to a HDMI handshake failure issue - specifically with HDMI-CEC - as I have not experienced this with Bravia Sync disabled.
Maybe the 2015 Android TVs are more prone to this??
But then you are describing it the other way around?
