Any thoughts on the relative performance of the new 400-800mm G lens compared with the 100-400mm GM lens with a 2x converter to reach 800mm when shooting sports (surfing). How do sharpness and autofocus speeds compare?

Hi @MFimage,
- Sony 400-800mm G: Offers better overall sharpness and autofocus performance at 800mm, making it a more reliable choice for capturing fast-moving sports like surfing.
- Sony 100-400mm GM with 2x Teleconverter: Provides versatility and good performance, but with some compromises in sharpness and autofocus speed when using the 2x teleconverter.
If you prioritize sharpness and autofocus speed for sports photography, the 400-800mm G lens would be the better option. However, if you need versatility and already own the 100-400mm GM lens, using the 2x teleconverter can still be a viable solution.
