SAL50F18 lens won't autofocus with A300 body

I am having problems with my SAL50F18 lens and switching from manual focus to autofocus, it has happened a few times before but leaving the battery out of the camera for a few minutes solved the problem but this time it isn't helping.

I have tried leaving the battery out, changing lens, reseting the body to factory setup, changing the battery, cleaning the contacts in the body and the lens but nothing is working.

The autofocus works fine with any other lens I have tried so the body seems to be fine but when I attach the 50mm lens it stays on MF, the lens motor makes a noise when attached but then AF on the screen changes to MF and stays that way.

Any suggestions on how to fix this would be great.

Hello again

Quite often, if you pop into your nearest branch of Jessops or Sony Centre (Sales) with your lens you will be able to try the lens with another body. This will at least confirm your suspicions if you are 95% sure.

Thanks,

Simon

Hello ricowhaz - welcome to the Sony Forums

Have also tried the offending lens with other cameras if you have access to them? This will at least help you to pinpoint where the issue is occuring i.e. if there is a camera specific issue or not - apologies if you have already done this.

Thanks,

Simon

Hi Simon, thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately I don't have access to another alpha body to test the lens but another lens with an in lens focus motor works fine so I'm pretty confident it's the lens.

Hopefully I will be near a Sony service centre in a few weeks so it looks like it's manual focus until then.

Managed to get the problem fixed at a Sony service centre, turned out to be a loose connection in the lens which just needed to be properly connected.

That's excellent - glad you have got the lens performing correctly again.
