An oft overseen possibility to install camera applications is by using your camera to install these.

Let's go.

1. Go to the PlayMemoriesCameraApps website and create an account. (no need to go here anymore after creating the account)
2. Connect your camera to your home WiFi network. Menu → (Wireless) → [Access Point Set.]
3. Find the camera applications in the menu of your camera.
   1. MENU → (Application List) → [Application] → PlayMemoriesCameraApps.
      
4. Select your application i.e. Smart Remote Control. (this app is free)
   
5. In the next menu select Update
   
6. A new screen opens with a link plus a QR code for the site where you can confirm your order.
   
   1. On that webpage you can enter the verification code displayed on your camera's screen.
7. The app will now be installed on your camera.
