FX3 - AF/MF Selector Hold malfunction(?)

On my FX3 the "AF/MF Selector Hold" is assigned to a custom a key. While it is pressed down it is supposed to switch from AF to MF & vice versa. It is working well when I am in AF - so when you press the button it switches to MF temporarily, but it does not work the other way around i.e. when I am in MF & press the button it does not switch to AF. It is working well on my A7IV.

Is it a malfunction or it is working differently on the FX3 than the A7IV? Anyone else encountering the same issue?

I'm on firmware 2.0 (FX3).
