Dear Friends
I'm in a bit of a muddle!
I've downloaded an firmware update for my Alpha a230 Digital Camera but I'm just so confused as I don't seem to be able to open this or install this. I'm currently running Windows XP.
I tried to follow the information on the Sony website but this just doesnt work for me. The file that I have for this is as follows:-
DSCA230V110.exe
I re-formatted my SD card and uploading this to the camera but to no avail. Please could someone possibly give me a step by step guide how to do this as I'm not very good with computers or camera's really and don't understand what I have to do.
Many thanks to anybody who might be able to point me in the right direction
Regards
Norfolklad

Solved! Go to Solution.
You should have downloaded the firmware update version DSCA230V110.exe to your PC.?
Once downloaded browse to the location you saved the DSCA230V110.exe file & double click it.
Click Run if requested to do so & wait for the file DSCA230.APP to extract.
Next make sure you have inserted & Formated your SD card in the camera. (see below if unsure how to)
Then copy DSCA230.APP to your SD card. (note do not place this file into any folder on the SD card)
Then follow the guide below..(note important points below BEFORE starting the update) Also if your using a SD card ensure the switch in point 1 is set correctly..
Important: When performing the firmware update, use fully charged rechargeable battery pack NP-FH50 or the AC adapter AC-PW10AM (sold separately).
Do NOT remove the battery or the AC adapter during the firmware update process, otherwise the camera may be permanently damaged.
Hi Norfolklad,
welcome to Questions & Answers..:smileyhappy:
First thing to check is does your A230 already have the latest firmware version installed, to Check follow the instructions below:
If the firmware version is already Ver.1.10, it is not necessary to update the firmware.
Hi Thalamus
Thank you for your help on this.
I've already checked this part and it states that I have Version.1.00 but according to the Sony Website there is a newer version. I've already downloaded the Firmware Update but can't seem to work out how to get this onto the camera.
I've followed the instructions on the Sony website but it doesnt seem to work for me in updating. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong.
Thanks for any further help if possible.

Hi Thalamus
Thank you so much for your kindness and patience with me regarding this Firmware question.
I'm not very good with technical things unfortunately especially where computers are concerned . Regretably I'm still not able to open this file, do I need anything running on my computer to open this as I've got a box saying that:-
Windows cannot open this file:
DSCA230.APP
To open this file, Windows needs to know what program created it.
I'm still trying to figure out what I now have to do. Please may I ask if you perhaps know what it is that I should be rrting now.
Many thanks again for all your help
