A7iii and iPad

Hi, I've got a pair of A7iii that I've had for about a year now and a new iPad.

In the past I've used Imaging Edge to transfer one or two photos to my iPhone when I'm working: but it has been the odd image here and there. Now I'm interested in using something to transfer to my iPad everything whilst I shoot so that I can cull and edit in Lightroom Mobile.

It would have to be wireless not tethered with cable.

I don't particularly like Imaging Edge and find the connection drops far too readily between it and the phone so guess the same will apply to the iPad. If it can be set to be more reliable that's great but connection drops too easily and I'm using two cameras so want them both connected all the time.

Given that the A7iii has been around for some time is there a reliable way to transfer as I shoot? I'm looking to transfer RAW+JPG (there is space enough on the iPad for the work that I do to allow one shoot to be completely downloaded allowing for immediate backup).

I'd be working often in areas with no good wifi nor 4G so I can imagine that a portable travel wifi router / mifi device might be part of the mix to allow both camera and iPad to connect to it.

Anyone got any good answers to this one, please?

Hello @MalthouseMark, the only way to do this is through the Imaging Edge mobile app, you can operate the camera remotely or transfer content while the camera is off, but you can't transfer while shooting at the same time.

Thanks @Piscie . I was already aware of Imaging Edge (which I find to be a particularly awful app). In the original guide when PlayMemories was the tool to use it talks of controlling via the PlayMovies on an iPhone/iPad https://helpguide.sony.net/ilc/1720/v1/en/contents/TP0001661941.html it also talks about sending to Smartphone function, again with PlayMemories installed on the smartphone https://helpguide.sony.net/ilc/1720/v1/en/contents/TP0001653186.html

though that would require an FTP server installed on the iPad/iPhone!

The link you give for remote power on/off says "even if the camera is turned off" you can turn it on and browse/transfer images.

Given that the a7iii was released in 2018 and there have been subsequent cameras I had rather hoped that the API that must have been used for PlayMemories and Imaging Edge Mobile had been released to the world and it might now be possible to do what I can do with my iPhone: take a photo and it be magically sent to my iPad and Mac and PC.

Essentially that's all I'm, looking for: the capability that is built in to the average phone.

It seem from the answers here the only way to achieve it is either a manual intervention with a clunky bit of software or to pay top dollar for Capture One.

Oh well. I guess I'll simply take the card out, put it in an iPad SD card reader and move them over. That's less painful!
