Hello!
Videos recorded in 10bit HDR on a Sony Xperia 5 II don't register as HDR on a Sony Bravia HDR TV.
I performed some tests using a good camera app called mcpro24fps, and eventually found a setting which allowed videos to be recognized as HDR (force the app to write metadata as HDR10 rather than the deafult of the phone or HLG):
Using mcpro24fps, I recorded 3 videos, all 10 bit HDR on, with various HDR METADATA settings.
1. "Default phone HDR metadata" (Sony TV does not recognize this as HDR)
2. Force HDR10 (Sony TV does recognize it as HDR)
3. Force HLG (Sony TV does not recognize it as HDR)
I compared the metadata using mediainfo, and found one setting that differed:
1) The three files which were not recognized as HDR (Sony stock app, and mcpro24fps - HDR metadata "as is" and "HLG") has:
Transfer characteristics : HLG
2) The one file that was recognized as HDR (mcpro24fps HDR metadata "HDR10) has:
Transfer characteristics : PQ
I don't know what this means.
I still find it very odd that the stock Sony video app can't produce video files that can be recognised as HDR on a Sony TV.
Does anyone know of a way to record videos using hte stock camera app in HDR to be able to be recognized as HDR on a TV?
Thanks
Uploading direct to YouTube, then viewing back in the TV app will then display as HDR.
That's how I do it anyway
Did you try to check another TV and check if the same thing happen or not ?
