Xperia 5 ii - expected update support

Hello, I'm new to this forum and to Sony phones. I am thinking of purchasing a new Xperia 5 ii phone when they are released soon.

I was trying to find out the number of Android updates and years of security updates for Sony phones in general, but specifically for the Xperia 5 ii. I've never had a Sony phone before. I believe they will arrive with Android 10, so will they get 11, 12 and 13, or at least 11, 12 and a year of minor security updates.

I did ask Sony support via email but they didn't seem to know or wouldn't say, not sure which. So can anyone please tell me what is the expected number of years of Android/security updates for a Sony phone, and specifically for the new 'Xperia 5 ii'?

Finally, any thoughts on Sony phones in general? As I said, I've never had a Sony phone but the reviews I've read so far seem to suggest that this 'Xperia 5 ii' is a good phone. Any thoughts?

I am aware that Google and Nokia for example seem to offer up to 3 years of Android updates or 2 years of Android updates followed by 1 year of security updates. For this Sony reasonably expensive phone, I'd hope that the update support is known and published somewhere.

Lately updates have reached up to 2 years.

Check AndroidAuthority for Sony updates read when published and calculate how old devices are that get updates to a newer Android version.

What I personally like about Sony phones is the camera.

Admitted, in tests other brands get higher marks but my Xperia outperforms others.

Why?

It's the camera key.

Let me explain.

I'm a snapshot shooter.

I don't use any manual settings, I'm shooting quick.

To get the light OK I'm pointing at a brighter or darker spot near the subject.

Then I press the camera key halfway.

The settings stay like they are, I point to the subject and there's my beautiful picture.

Since a few years I leave the compact camera at home.

I know people can do it better and sharper and what more.

Better an instant picture that has been taken than a perfect pictures that has not been made.

My Xperia wins in difficult circumstances, it even beats my wife's Nikon D3400 in twilight and dark streets.

Last: every smartphone nowadays is good, be it Samsung, iPhone, Sony or whatever.

Even midpriced smartphones are good.

It's customer satisfaction.
