RDR-HXD970 stuck at Welcome and flashing red clock

Hi,

I have a Sony RDR-HXD970 serial # 4004304. This unit does not work: it displays ‘Welcome’ but will not accept any commands – not even a front-panel reset. There is a red clock which flashes next to the Welcome message.

Anyone have any idea how I can get this working again, or where to get it repaired?

If you cannot even reset it via the front panel, try unplugging from main for let's say one day. It should discharge the battery so maybe it will cancel the problem (if it's not an hardware one...)

Hi ? thanks for the note - the machine has been unused for a couple of
years, so battery is probably full discharged. I have called a couple of
Sony repair centres, but they have not seen anything similar and I?m trying
to decide if it is worth spending the money to have the problem diagnosed
(?45) + repair ? I?d like to have some prediction on what a total cost of
repair might be before I go ahead. Failing that, I?d sell / give it away to
someone who wants it for spares.

Hi there

I dont think anyone on the forums would be able to answer that question unfortunately. Only the Sony repair centre could tell you the likely costs associated.

If you wanna try you may have fun reading the service manual, maybe it can help. Be aware that in order to operate the service menu you need a special remote or a programmable one (I used an Harmony one)...

I decided the unit was beyond my abilities to repair, so will put it on ebay for sale - spares or repair
