Try this:

Power off at mains

Wait 2 mins

Power on

Select system menu

Easy Setup

language Francais

country France

run auto scan

DON'T WORRY IT WILL FIND ALL ENGLISH CHANNELS

When scan complete exit back to TV

All UK digital channels will be there.

YOU CANNOT USE EPG

Select channels using channel up/down button on handset

You can view already recorded items via title list

You can record using record button on hand set and stop using stoprec utton

You cannot do auto record because no EPG

HOPE THIS HELPS UNTIL SONY COME BACK FROM THEIR LONG WEEKEND!!!

quickly tap the power button when its off, no need to wait for 2 mins

select ENGLISH for the language, but FRANCE for the location. this keeps the menus in english

This is not a solution!

I use the recorder to set up future recordings. If I'm there to activate record....I could watch the prgramme live!

The real and unforgiveable scandal is

WHERE ARE SONY...NOT A WORD OF EXPLANATION OR APOLOGY.

THEY CLEARLY DONT CARE IN THE SLIGHTEST

Thanks will try that. I wonder how many people have bought a new recorder thinking theirs was broken. Currys is open all weekend unlike Sony!!

You can actually record advance programmes manually by setting the times and channel if you can be bothered. Let's hope the problem is sorted soon.
