BDP-S370 not reading NAS drive correctly

Hello,

I have a BDP-S370 and a Seagate Go-Flex NAS drive.

The NAS has lots of video content stored on it that can be read by my Win7 PC and laptop.

The BDP, however, can only see and play some of the files. I recently had a clear out of the drive, but the player is still saying the deleted files are still there. And cannot see any new ones I have added.

The files are all the same format.

I'm going nuts trying to get the player to read the read the NAS correctly!

er... Cant think of anything else to add right. Any help would be appriciated and I will try to answer any and all questions that I can, but please bear in mind I'm not a fan of jargon and acronyms. Please use plain english

for some reason the BDP hanging and keep the history of the deleted file

So, reset the player to factory setting as mentioned in page 25 in manual

Let us know the trial result

Thanks for the reply.

I have completed a factory reset, unfortunetly it appears to have had no effect. As soon as the player locates the drive it loads the same files as before.

What type of connection do you use between NAS and BDP? Is it direct connection by USB cable? or Do you use indirect correction such as DLNA connection by Windows MP12 or Serviio software?

The BDP and the NAS are connected to a BT HOme Hub 2.0 via ethernet cables

i guess this is the reason behind the problem

You are using your laptop/PC as DLNA server, and the links of the deleted files still reside in the SHARE folder

When you browse the NAS from your BDP it read this share folder (not the HD itself)

i don't know which software you are using to enable DLNA server on your laptop, but give a try to Serviio software, it is easy to use, recommended by Sony UK, freeware and the most important it update the files links inside the share folder (default refresh time every five minutes)

I'm not even sure what a DNLA server is........

Did I mention I dont have to have my PC switched on? I get the same issue wether PC is on or not.

either your laptop is switch on or off it is not the main issue, the shared files stored on laptop if you connected NAS to laptop using USB ,,,, Shared files stored on NAS itself in you connect NAS to hub using LAN cable,,, whatever the DLNA Server is only a name for the device which hold the share folder.

Serviio appears to have done nothing except make my PC appear on the BDP lists. But then it cant find any files. But I dont have an issue with playing files from PC onto the TV (it's my 3rd monitor) this didnt really help.

After removing Serviio I am now back at square 1.

But I went back to the Serviio website and checked out the FAQ's and start up guides to see if missed anything. Not understanding half of what is written there does not help (and it appears the user interface has had a few changes that are not taken into consideration in the guides). As said in the OP I dont do jargon

I reinstall, went through the steps (as best I understood them) and still the BDP will only see old files that are no longer on the NAS and cannot see files that are on there.

I dont appear to have missed anything. Serviio did not help me.

Dlna sometimes not easy to configured

why you didnot connect your NAS directly to your BDP usb socket and see what is running there?

I wouldnt say I dislike Serviio, it just didnt do anything useful for me.

As for connecting via a USB cable, I had not considered it as I have no spare USB cables

I'll pick one up on the way home from work this evening and let you know.

I plugged a USB in to the BDP and the NAS, switched then on and waited for the results.

Nothing.

Additionally, the player is now picking up my PC as "Serviio (PC)". Which is interesting as I removed the Serviio software!

what do u mean by nothing? did you go to menu> video or photo or audio> select you NAS which is the USB device

You should see files on your NAS (please refer to page 15 in user manual)

After connecting the NAS and the BDP via USB I switch them on. No new icons appeared, no USB selection appeared. And to top it off, when selecting the NAS drive from the usual list it now says "Unable to find server. Please peform network diagnosis...."

I've checked the manual and it gives nothing new away that I havent done.

I'm trying everything you suggest several times and nothing seems to be working.

An additional information, (but i am not sure if it is applicable to BDP or not), that information says Some Sony devices can not see the USB unless it is formated by FAT32 or exFAT

Further to formatting to FAT32........

I am currenly moving files around (it take a while to shift a TB of data :smileyhappy:) and whilst doing so I thought I'd check how to format the NAS, as there is no "format" option when I right click on the drive icon.

A lot of advice appears to be to use the Disk Management tool, however the NAS does not appear on this.

Is there another way to format NAS drives that I am missing?

Also I am slightly concerned from reading that FAT32 set up is limited to 4gb files. Does that means the HiDef files on the drive will not work?

i think any drive can be formated, may be it have some file protection software which prevent the format, check the company website for your drive , sure they provide some procedure to do it. Or google it

Yes the FAT32 is limited to 4GB for a single file, only exFAT or NTFS can accept bigger size, Some Sony products not see the NTFS drive when connected to USB port

I am sure your BDP is ok and the problem located with NAS itself, or some configuration related to your home network setting

OK, I moved all files off the NAS and started the format........

However the drive crash. I tried to fix it (in my limited knowledge) but couldnt. So I took it back to store and they tested and said the drive had failed. And swapped out for a new one. A different make, WD. Have hooked it up and put some files on it and BDP sees them all.:smileyhappy:

So thanks again for your help, it really was appriciated. The issue has been solved by a hardware failure and replacement:smileysilly:
