We have a BDP-S370 blu ray player and over the week or so have noticed that about the 1 hour 15 minutes mark the disc stops and then starts again. This has become more and more noticable. It happens on both original and homemade discs in dvd format.

Any help is appreciated

Cheers

Hi,

on normal dvd's this is down to what is known as layer change, basically what this means is that all pre-recorded dvd's have a dual layer surface to record apon and this "jump" is down to the player finding the second level.

now as for blank media doing this, this can only happen if you are using dual layer dvd's, these are 8.5GB, if you are using single layer (4.7GB), it wont do this.

all blu ray discs do not exibit this trait.

hope this helps.

If the problem is related to a specific disc only, that mean it has surface scratch / dust on the track recorded at 1hr 15min...the remedy will be clean the disc surface and slight polish it using a damp soft cotton cloth.

If the problem is related to many discs from different sources that mean hardware problem ( the laser lens carrier mechanism may stuck at a specific point).

May be this help.

Regards,

Message was edited by: KDL-CX520

Message was edited by: KDL-CX520

Have not noticed it happening on blu ray discs, only original dvd and backup dvds. All my backup dvds are single layer but understand the backed up movie may cross the layers from the original disc, but every movie I backup? seems odd to me.

Some of the jumps are quite harsh and when I explained to the wife that dvd cases used to have a warning written on them about the skip between layers was normal, this current problem is more than a skip and becoming more of a short pause.

Usually just copy the main movie to backup not shrink the whole disc to single layer. Ill try a definate problem disc in another player and see what happens. Watch this space

Once you decide to buy any brand name unit then you should be ready to face a problem in a day sooner or later. Either its laser diode power diminished over usage time, misalignment/calibration, incompatibility between discs manufacturers and your device. Somehow it is a technology matter.
