topic SONY STRDH820 LPCM SOUND ONLY FROM HDMI - HANDSHAKE PROBLEM? in Home Cinema, Projectors & Players

I'm having a problem with Sony STRDH820 Receiver which I purchased from you
and which arrived yesterday. I am using it together with a Pioneer Kuro
PDP-LX5090 Plasma television and a Pioneer BDP-LX71 Bluray player. I previously
used these items with a Sony TA-DA9000ES amplifier. The Bluray player was
connected to the amplifier via analogue connectors (the TA-DA9000ES was made
before the days of HDMI cables) and I received 5.1 surround sound from DVD and
Bluray discs using this system without a problem.

I purchased the Sony STRDH820 from you because I
wanted to take advantage of superior lossless sound (Dolby Tru-HD and DTS-HD
Master Audio) which is available from Bluray discs but only with an amplifier
able to decode these formats - which my old Sony wasn't. I have carefully followed the instructions for the
Sony STRDH820. My Bluray player is connected to the amplifier using a high speed
HDMI cable - the Chord HDMI Supershield v1.4 which I also purchased from you as
part of the same order.

The problem is that the amplifier will not decode the Dolby Tru-HD and DTS-HD Master Audio soundtracks, or even the plain Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtracks on DVD. All it will deliver is stereo LPCM to the front two speakers. Only the LPCM indicator lights up on the front panel. The amplifier recognizes that I have a 5.1 setup and I've checked that speakers and subwoofers are connected using the test tones.

The handbook offers these three troubleshooting suggestions:

• Check that the DVD, etc. you are playing is recorded in Dolby Digital or
DTS format. [Yes the discs are]

• When connecting the DVD player, etc., to the digital input jacks of this
receiver, make sure the digital audio output setting of the connected equipment
is available. [I've done this with the Bluray player - it's set to
output these audio formats]

• Set "Audio Out" to "AMP" in the HDMI Settings menu. [I've done that
as well]

In addition to this I've made sure that the Input Mode is set to "Auto" -
which gives priority to digital audio signals. (page 62 of the manual)

ANYONE GOT ANY SOLUTIONS? I'VE HEARD THIS CALLED AN "HDMI HANDSHAKE" PROBLEM - BUT WHAT'S THE SOLUTION?THANKS!
